Lucy Kincaid is a published adapter, author, and editor of children's books. Many of her books were published by Brimax and many were published in collaboration with her husband, illustrator Eric Kincaid.
This is the story of a boy who sold his cow for magic beans. When they grow jack goes up the bean stock and the wife of the giant protects him and he sees the hen laying golden eggs. When the giant is asleep he takes the hen down the beanstalk and goes back up the next day. Jack hides again and sees the singing harp. When the giant is asleep the the harp wakes him up and he chases jack down the beanstalk, he cuts down the stock and lives happy with the harp, hen and his mother.
This is another great easy read for students. This is a traditional fairytale that students know that would be good for them to read aloud to me.
Another great version of the timeless tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. Jack sells the family's only cow for some magic beans. Beside herself, she throws the magical beans outside as she chides her son. Low and behold, the next day a magical beanstalk has appeared. Jack decides to climb it and encounters a castle and a giant. The giant possesses magical items that Jack could use to make money for him and his family. Soon Jack is on the run, and has to quickly chop the beanstalk down before the giant can get him. A great story for kids to think about.
Jack and his mother were very poor. He went out to sell his cow and decided to trade if for 5 magic beans. His mother was furious and threw them out the window. A huge beanstalk grew and Jack climbed up it to find a mean giant, a chicken that lays gold eggs, and a harp that sings by itself. The giant caught him stealing the harp and at the last second after being chased by the giant he chopped the beanstalk down and the giant was never seen again. Jack and his mother were never poor again thanks to the chicken and the harp.
