Eileen Dewhurst was born in Liverpool, read English at Oxford, and has earned her living in a variety of ways, including journalism. When she is not writing she enjoys solving cryptic crossword puzzles and drawing and painting cats.
Phyllida Moon – actress and part time private investigator – is asked to look into the anonymous letters art expert David Lester has been receiving. She masquerades as a temporary home help in the mornings and an equally temporary receptionist at the gallery where David works.
This is a fascinating story with plenty of twists and turns before the criminals are unmasked and brought to justice. I like Phyllida as a character and I think the relationship between her and private detective Peter Piper’s other employees is very well done. Equally well done is the uneasy relationship between the detective agency and the police.
This is the second book on the series though it can be read as a standalone novel and it will be of interest to anyone who enjoys crime novels with a difference.
