A Good Day Has No Rain

Rate this book
In the 1950s, the U.S. government decided that domestic atom bomb testing was "essential to the national defense." A violent storm caused New York's Capital region to receive excessive amounts of radioactive fallout in April 1953. This book contains what may be the only independent scientific data from these tests.

Lots of work went into this book. It contains a lot of technical information. Unless you live near Albany or Troy, New York, it may not be very interesting reading. Very informative as to how the government operates and trys to keep things from the public.

Chilling demonstration of the lengths any government will go through to hide the truth from the population when necessary. This is in the context of nuclear testing during the Cold War - beating the Soviets trumps even the health of the citizens. Lots of documentation and research, but in places still felt like anecdotes strung together. Very interesting read.

Excellent, learned at least part of the reason why my hometown has such high cancer rates.
