Calling the last week a hell storm is an understatement.

The Horrors That Created Us
This was supposed to be mine and Jeremy's happily ever after.
Our son arrives in a few months.
We're just getting settled into owning the diner.
The remodel on our apartment is almost finished.
But those maniacs who kidnapped Chris know we're getting close to finding them...or perhaps, they're getting close to finding me.
Now I'm standing on a deserted road before a man who's got a blade to my sister in-law's throat and another to the little boy Jeremy and I have been fostering.
They tell me I have to come with them, or none of us will make it out of this alive.
I can't live with myself if I sacrifice their lives for mine.
Aftershocks
I may be home, but I'm not really here.
When I was locked in a cell, I somehow felt stronger than I do now. Everywhere I look, it reminds me of how grateful I should be to be home.
But hundreds are still in captivity because I failed to save them.
I know I need to stay vertical so I can find them all, and I'm gonna try. But I'm sure I'll fall before I learn to run past this.

For the last three months, I've dreamed of holding my fiancé in my arms again. Now she's here. I'm holding her, and somehow, it feels like I'm alone.
But I'll do what I've always done. I'll push that thought to the back of my mind, hold her tighter, and remind myself that one day, she'll really be here again.

DNF. Sort of.
I read the prequel which was pretty good then started on this box set with the 1st 3 books. I read the first and second of the 3 but that's it. The writing is mostly good. The character development is good. I don't really agree with a lot of the MC stance on social topics, but that isn't a deal breaker. There are just a couple of things that made me lose any interest in reading any more of this author's books. 1. I hate cliffhangers. The prequel and the first book weren't cliffhangers but wow the 3rd is and so I looked ahead to their reviews and synopses for the next books in the series and there seem to be a ton of cliffs ahead. That's a no go for me. 2. This series took a wrong turn for me in the 3rd book. I'm not bothered by "triggers" but it was not romantic to me, nor entertaining. If you're into Romeo and Juliet-like stories where the main characters barely speak a few sentences to each other then spend the rest of the story brutally ripped apart by fate, this one's for you.
