I loved this book so much as a kid, I ended up writing my PhD thesis on the Spanish Civil War, (if you are interested, it's on Academia.edu).
Members of my family campaigned for and fought in Spain and as a teenager I was a member of the Birmingham Clarion Singers who were founded by returnees.

Read this almost 40 years ago, a fine introduction to social justice and the death of democracy in Europe. Good to see its still in print. a worthy gift for any young reader.
