Personal Name Index to Stillwell's "Unrecorded Wills and Inventories, Monmouth County, New Jersey"

Rate this book
In 1975, the Shrewsbury Historical Society reprinted Dr. John Stillwell's Unrecorded Wills and Inventories, Monmouth County, New Jersey , renaming it Historical and Genealogical Miscellany, Volume VI, Unrecorded Wills and Inventories, Monmouth County, New Jersey . This is a very valuable reference to researchers, containing hundreds of Monmouth County wills and inventories dating primarily to the late 17th - early 18th centuries. While Stillwell's other works are excellently indexed, this is not the case with Unrecorded Wills and Inventories . In a note to the reader, the compiler of the wills and inventories "To make a proper Index to this volume would be to reprint the book. A genealogist looks for the names in inventories and wills, and these have purposely been omitted, as well as the names of the witnesses, etc." To help make the valuable resource of Unrecorded Wills and Inventories more accessible to researchers, this book fully indexes all of the given names and surnames mentioned, including those of slaves and Native Americans.
