A Little Breast Music

Poetry. "Shirley J. Brewer's poems are so alert to the reverberant specifics of life, so alive with sensory energy, that I lose myself (a benefit!) in the lost worlds they evoke. A LITTLE BREAST MUSIC sings!"—Thomas Lux.

A very small book with 25 poems, very moving and very accessible, occasionally quite witty as well. I heard Shirley at a reading at The Ivy Bookshop and want to read everything she’s written.

Having heard Shirley Brewer read at a local open mic night I was keen to explore more of her poetry. She is wonderful! She is a master of opposites, contrasting deep with comical, light with dark and real life with the fantastical. This little book is a fantastic addition to any poet-lover's collection. Highly recommend! My favourite poems, although it was hard to choose, were: Signature, Scrabble, The Bomber Pilot, How to Kill Time, Seven and Making Change.
