The law is no laughing matter. But when one looks more closely it teems with humor. This compendium contains many witty and sometimes profound observations and sayings, arranged in sections covering justice, the law, lawyers, courts, libel, crime and punishment, and wills. Each section begins with a preface by Ronald Irving, containing insights and anecdotes about the law. The book is illustrated throughout with cartoons and sketches, and will interest and entertain lawyers and all who have ever marveled at the mysterious workings of the law.
This is the first anthology I have read and this style is not for me. There are a bunch of quotes from all different sources, but they seem thrown into a book. There is not point being made, just the quotes that deal with different types of law. Some parts with information read more like a textbook, just knowledge or things that happened in this type of law or a story and is followed by the quotes. This just didn't hold my attention and I did not enjoy reading random quotes.
About halfway through. It is a wry look at the relativity of "absolutes" in the world of law. Quite funny... 50/50 american and british law systems. I would prefer less brit influence... but its still a wry, ironic read.
