Harry Shannon has been an actor, a singer, an Emmy-nominated songwriter, a recording artist in Europe, a music publisher, a film studio executive and worked as a free-lance Music Supervisor on films such as “Basic Instinct” and “Universal Soldier.” He is author of the horror novels “Night of the Beast” and “Night of the Werewolf” in addition to “Daemon” (formerly “Night of the Daemon”). Harry also wrote the Mick Callahan suspense novels “Memorial Day,” (2005) “Eye of the Burning Man,” (2006) and “One of the Wicked” (Nov. 2008), as well as the acclaimed thriller “The Pressure of Darkness” (2006). Harry Shannon's character, Mick Callahan, is a cross between Dirty Harry and Dr. Phil, sort of a hard-boiled radio therapist and reluctant detective, and a lot of fun to follow. I really enjoyed this book as an easy amusement. It is well written and kept me going. He has a series of these with the same protagonist.

I'm okay with a writer using a bit of creative license in a setting but this was ridiculous. Why set it Burning Man when clearly the author not only has never been to Burning Man, but could not possibly even have talked to anyone that's been there? This was about as accurate as setting a book in New York City and having the character walk around in farmland. Burning Man is not a macho, lawless, nude, gun-toting wasteland. I bought this book hoping to revisit "Black Rock City" and was very disappointed.

If one is to write a novel where the Burning Man Festival is going to figure prominently, one should actually attend said festival before doing so.

Or at the very least, do some research. Other then the technical facts - a wooden man burns, and the event itself takes place in the desert - almost everything else written about the festival is dead wrong.
