Nigel Temple’s relatively short 96 pager on writing copy for the web is very useful indeed.The popularity of blog platforms like WordPress, Blogger, Joomla etc. have given millions of people around the world an easy and affordable way to get themselves published online today.

Nevertheless, this 2007 edition is worth its money despite being 4 years behind. The author’s methods are built on online writing principles that remain very much current to cyber standards in 2011. He explains the fundamental basics of web content copy in a simple manner that you can quickly apply to your web project. It’s common logic after all.

Now let’s be clear, this book isn’t about building a website; as it assumes that you already have the design in place and all the other technical details of website type, domain name registration and hosting all sussed out.

So what Temple offers here are the effective ways for writing good content. They include search engine tips, creative headlines, planning and structuring your pages to providing ‘freebies’ and recruiting ‘followers’. Using these guidelines ultimately gives you the edge to fully benefit the internet’s marketing, publishing and broadcasting opportunities. He spells everything out for you in a direct one-week planner. Hence the objective of the book.

It’s an easy read. There are no technical web programing jargons at all here; only straightforward layman’s terms on writing for the web – in English. I think of it as a pocket guide to web copywriting and would keep it close for a quick advise whenever I need one.
