In Please Don't Go , former Celtic and Wales soccer star John Hartson documents his fight for life after being diagnosed in July 2009 with testicular cancer, which subsequently spread to his lungs and brain. Profoundly moving, John's own story is interwoven with the poignant recollections of his pregnant wife, Sarah, as well as with extracts from his sister Victoria's personal diary. This remarkable book covers the five-week period during which John's survival was most in jeopardy. Hartson's truly remarkable account of how he has managed to overcome a very aggressive form of cancer will offer hope and courage to others affected by the disease. It is a touching and ultimately uplifting insight into of the bravery of the popular football hero, who has fought back to full health against all the odds.
This is sort of a heroic story about his battle with cancer. And I defy any man not to check his testicles having read this story. Just wish he didn't keep crying all of the time. The Johnny Hartson I used to see at Highbury was a big tough bruiser able to confront anyone. This story has Big John crying and getting all sentimental all the time. Still its an admirable story and should be taken seriously as it will save lives.
WOW! What a truly great read. What this man and his family and friends went through doesn't bear thinking about. A truly strong, courageous man. Glad he got better and a very strong wife and family by his side.
i first heard about john when i was watching a soccer match and being a testicular cancer survivor myself i found his story inspiring. so i got this book to read more about him....good book....it was one of those that you hate reaching the end of.
