The De Witt brothers' original 17 turkeys grew to more than 6,000, the small company becoming a turkey empire. In its final year of operation under the De Witts, Bil Mar had sales of $199.1 million and shipped throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and the Middle East from its three plants. By that time, the company employed 2,400 in Borculo, outside Zeeland, and its two smaller sites in Iowa and Ohio.
