Charleston

Charleston is ancient, buth the photographs are fesh, the details telling, and the colors disarming. and the accompanying text is rich in historical and romantic certainties- and attentive to the matters of living. You'ss find the expected here the stunning beauty of the South Battery and the classical grandeur of Hibernian Hall. There are gardens and gates, churches and the Old World streetscapes - scenes of the familiar. But there are overlooked treasures as well - a "golden" corridor of the Aiken Rhett Slave uarters and the beshadowed baptismalfont of St. Michael's Church.

I enjoyed this book, but I felt that some of the photos could have been better. Some were taken at sunrise or sunset (it appeared), and there was more shadow and darkness in the photo than I would have liked. A few pictures were taken at unusual angles. I'm sure they were meant to be artistic and to change things up a little bit.
