Provides a unique approach to the study of ethics by incorporating both the philosophical and religious perspectives against a discussion of moral issues. It requires readers to examine their own positions on a range of moral issues and to provide reasons in support of those opinions through readings that emphasize the use of critical thinking skills as necessary to moral reasoning.
Palmer-Fernandez did an excellent job covering major topics and also of selecting excerpts from widely divergent positions on each particular topic. Topics covered are: Religion and Morality; Abortion; Euthanasia; Ethics and National Health Care; Sex and Marriage; Religion and Public Life; War and Pacifism; Ethics and the Economic Order; Hunger and Moral Obligation; Religion, Ethics, and the Environment; and Justice.
My only "complaint" is that the book obviously doesn't include any of the helpful contributions from the last 20 years.
