I loathe most aspects of the cult of technical analysis
but if you're interest the more useful patterns it's interesting when you want to look at this form of voodoo that gets things right 54% of the time
studying a chart to actual events and the reasons for the chart is one thing
but thinking patterns rule over profitability growth and especially valuation
since some stocks that go up are healthy at at those higher prices
but many that go up are overvalued till things get toxic and the PSR (Price to Sales Ratio)
will show you a stock that will eventually flame out sooner or later and crash and burn
//////
but I think irrational investors dog piling into a company which is in a state of dog crap going all out China syndrome is something they can't predict very much
and the same for irrational fears and good (and lousy) stocks tank
Some stocks are very volatile I think that makes for some interesting complexities
///////
I just think that a solid valuation says so much more
If the stock is overvalued it drops eventually to the fair value
if a stock is undervalued it rises sooner or later to the fair value
A good book for a beginner. It identifies all sorts of patterns and gives examples of them showing the pattern over the chart. A very useful book to have one the shelf if you're new to reading or think you could do with a little backup from time to time
