This is an interesting overview of the early days of the SAS and their role in WW 2. It probably wasn't necessary for the author to recall every mission as that naturally led to a degree of redundancy. The book is well organized though to limit confusion as much as possible. The original L detachment had some very charismatic personalities and after reading this book one will undoubtedly want to learn more about Sterling, Mayne and some of the others who were prominent in providing the foundation of this legendary unit.

A factually interesting, if rather dry, account of the early activities of the SAS.
