When I decided to read this book, I wasn't expecting to be filled with so much drama. I was expecting to read something like Fix You by Mari Carr and that's why I choose it over the other books I had on my to read list. Jake's health problem was over in the first chapter, though and that left me unsatisfied.
When Darcy was first mentioned, I thought that she would be a nice person, who might even get her own book or a happy ending. I was so wrong I want to smack myself. That girl can make you hate her faster that you can blink, the moment she opens her mouth. Her fakenesss was obvious to everyone, but Jake.
I wasn't able to fully comprehend what Kira's problems were and I can't always grasp her reasoning/. At least she did something in the end. That situation with her mother was unexpected and not justified (much though I added that as a second thought). Jake is a poor bloke who was very close to getting what he wanted for years and losing it over a not smart (input a "bad word") decision.
The epilogue was short, but we see how Kira and Jake are faring and how Jake's carrier processed. I wouldn't be very satisfied with it, but then I remembered that I will see Jake and Kira in the next two books. I don't know why the trilogy is named Brook Hollow instead of MacGregor sisters because the three books will feature the three sisters.

this book was emotional, to think you may lose your best friend, who deep down you've always loved, it's heart breaking.
Kira left brookhollow for something better, for a new start that would never lead her back to Boston.
Jake has always loved Kira but was afraid to voice his feelings, when he gets news he maybe dying from cancer he doesn't want to miss his chance. he tells kira how he feels to just find out she doesn't feel the same or does she.

I won this book thanks to goodreads giveaways. It was sweet but has a little drama.
We meet Jake who is afraid he might have cancer, although this issue is resolved and wrapped up really quickly. Kira’s feelings aren’t as easy to to get over.
Darcy is by far my least favorite character. She is just very unlikeable and I am perfectly ok about the fact that she didn’t get a happy ending.
A sweet romance between Jake and Kira but I personally feel like this is best as a stand-alone.

I picked this up because I've been saying for a while I wanted to see what the author could do with a contemporary. However, I think Damschroder has grown as a writer over the last eight years. I can see the potential here, enough so that I'd read the next book in the trilogy, but 2013 Damschroder is better than 2005 Damschroder.
