Canoeing Algonquin Park"is an ideal resource for planning and carrying out a canoe trip in Algonquin Park, or simply dreaming about it. Aside from the route maps and advice, the historical background and natural history will add depth to the experience of paddling through this landscape. It is simply absorbing to browse through, checking out the marginal sketches of park flora and fauna, which are accompanied by succint explanatory text, and studying the maps."--John A. Book critic, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. There are 37 maps, 60 landscape sketches and more than 200 flora and fauna drawings.
This is one of the finest canoe trip logs / guidebooks I've read. Lloyd gives such a compelling and informative description of each lake, this book will definitely cure a case of cabin fever. You can almost hear the swish of the paddle and the call of the loon. I don't think I have read a better trip planning guide, one that gives you just enough information to figure out if you want to make the effort to visit a particular lake accompanied by sketches that further pique your curiosity. Just looking at the spine of this book gives me a warm flash of Algonquin memories.
This book contains guides to many canoe routes in this Canadian provincial park interspersed with the authors own recollections and sketches of some of his favorite routes. It isn't a cover-to-cover kind of read, but it is more than a straightforward guide...it was worth the $5 or so I spent on it.
Great resource for canoe trip planning. Awesome hiking trails, canoe routes & portages. To find the right fishing spots, you really have to speak with locals.
