Complete Guitar Instruction, Volume 2: Easily the Most Thorough, Concise and Gradually Paced Guitar Method Book Series Ever Devised

Rate this book
A guitar method book series focusing on the fundamentals of music traditional sight-reading skills, the optimal posture for fastest learning, the professionally accepted conventions for flatpicking and fingerpicking, and a recommended regimen for learning chords as accompaniment (strumming/fingerpicking). An accurate and straightforward approach to guitar study for private instruction or classroom use.

Volume 2 continues directly from - and builds upon - the Volume 1 curriculum. Volume 2 begins by exploring melodic motion, and its relationship to seven intermediate left-hand and right-hand techniques on the guitar. As with the previous volume, a copious amount of gradually paced songs and etudes has been curated to solidify sight-reading fluency.

Upon completing Volume 2 the student will have mastered the all the natural notes on strings 1-4 (in first position) plus F# (first string) and G# (3rd string), note durations (whole, half and quarter notes; pairs of eighth notes), time signatures (4/4, 3/4, 2/4), duets, rests, repeats, first and second endings, da capo al fine, dal signo al fine, pickup measures (anacrusis) that include eighth notes, an introduction to the Key of G Major, naturals, and courtesy accidentals. Included are dozens of examples in each of these areas to keep the student progressing, incrementally growing from lesson to lesson, challenged with new material, and ensuring reading fluency (instead of sheer memorization).

An optional section on introducing and practicing chords is provided for strumming and fingerpicking (A, A7, Am, Am7, C, C7, D, D7, Dm, E, E7, G, G7); an analysis of 5 basic strumming patterns and 3 essential fingerpicking patterns; and an explanation of tablature (including its best usage and inherent weaknesses).

The techniques are displayed in 26 photographs and over than 30 illustrations. Musical literacy is strengthened with more than 280 sight-reading songs and exercises, more than 50 chord progression exercises. Printed in a slightly larger font for ease of reading for all ages. An accurate and straightforward approach to guitar study for private instruction or classroom use. Contents tested in both settings for 15 years; proven 98% success rate across thousands of students (ages 7-84).
