I loved this book and learned a lot from it. I am still not certain that I entirely ascribe to Count d'Alviella's theory that views on religion develop in generally distinct phases, however I must admit that he made a very strong case for it. I also appreciated that he repeatedly gave credit to Herbert Spencer's powerful work, “First Principles.” I had also found this to be a very important work in my philosophical and religious growth.
