The reader is almost certainly not meant to read all five volumes end to end, but I did it anyway. The three-star rating is misleading. There are several four-star entries an several two-star entires.

Part of what makes the sketches of the Justices interesting is that some of them led more interesting lives. But the ones with more personality and character and theme were much better than those that tallied off a list of cases decided when the Justice served.

There are a lot of very interesting people who served on the Supreme Court -- even for long stretches -- who have been totally forgotten.

Not sure if it is better or worse for history that they probably all have Wikipedia pages now.
