I hope I didn't read books this dopey when I was little. I guess it's a little bit of my bias against "easy readers" instead of picture books. Picture books are works of art! I'm sure I read some easy readers... like Cat in the Hat? Bread and Jam for Frances? Arthur's Honey Bear? Those were stories told in easy reader form. The story of Joseph is so complex and has a lot of nuance and heart and I don't feel like that comes across in an extremely simplified easy reader. Like there should be crying...
