Surprisingly engaging. A pithy summary of education -- broadly defined -- as seen in three eras of American history. Primary feature is "complexity," meaning that education is not something confined to schools, but a function of household, church, school, workplace, civic institutions, media, peers, and other influences. General conclusions are balanced by stories of individuals from each era. Downside is that its copyright is 1976 -- a lot has happened since then!
