Relating the cross to the life of the believer, L.E. Maxwell shows how an understanding of our identification with Christ in His death and resurrection can lead to a life of consecration and discipline. In this classic work, readers will discover that living in the perspective of the cross will enable them to have victory over sin and power in their lives to serve God.
The content is excellent and the theology is biblically sound. It is difficult to find contemporary authors who deal as extensively with the Cross and its application to all areas of spiritual life. The author's view is summed up in a quote on the back: "The Cross is the key to all situations as well as to all Scripture." Well put.
My only complaint is readability. The writing is sermonic in style. It's obvious that much of the book was taken directly from the author's teaching and preaching. Watchman Nee's "The Normal Christian Life," though also prepared directly from his spoken messages, covers many of the same topics but with, I feel, better presentation.
this is an abridged version of LE Maxwell's book originally titled Born Crucified. The original was a life changing book for me. Having read the original numerous times and this abridged one once or twice, I think this version lost something on the chopping block. And the original is short enough I'm not sure why they abridged it. But it is still well worth the read.
This book will challenge you to consider what it means to follow Christ. In practical terms, Maxwell brings to life what it means to pick up your cross and follow Jesus.
