From 1989 to 1991 he served as Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers.
He wrote dozens of stories, short stories, novels such as "It is difficult to be a man", "Fatima and Venus", "Doomsday Debt", "Hurrying Sun", "Flowing Water", "Court", "Commission", "The First Day of Autumn", According to his application, he created dramatic works such as "Resort", "When the Earth Burns". He also wrote screenplays for films such as "A Tale of Two Soldiers," "For Others," and "Meeting in the Snow." The novel "It is difficult to be a man" won the award of the Youth Organization of Uzbekistan (1971), the film "The Story of Two Soldiers" won the Republican State Prize (1977)
Umarbekov was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Artist of Uzbekistan" in 1984 and "People's Writer of Uzbekistan" in 1992.
