The journal was founded in 1988 by Kathleen Parthe, University of Rochester, who edited volumes I-III (1988-90). Amy Mandelker, City University of New York, Graduate Center, took over the role of Editor from 1991-93 and published volumes IV-VI. The late Charles Isenberg, Reed College, edited volumes VII-VIII (1994-96). Donna Tussing Orwin, University of Toronto, edited volumes IX-XVI. The current editor is Michael A. Denner, Stetson University.
