I think I read this in the 7th grade and LOVED it. I just saw it on the shelves at the library recently and immediately wanted to have my daughter read it. I still think about the scene where she gives birth, wraps a blanket around herself and goes up on deck to defend her ship as they're under attack. Awesome!

I read this book as a teen, and loved it. I remember distinctly how awed I was by the pirate queen's exploits and daring. She seemed so brave. And this was the first book I read where the female protagonist acted as strong and brave as any male.

This was an interesting story. Now I would like to know more about these events during this time period!
