I read /Peak Performance : Business Lessons from the World's Top Sporting Organizations/, by Clive Gibson et al.

Decent book, but hard to believe it was runner-up for the "Bookie Prize", the William Hill-sponsored Sports Book of the Year Award:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/other...

The authors discuss their theory of how sports teams and their organizations are successful, and include significant detail on the San Francisco 49ers, the Chicago Bulls, the NY Yankees, the All-Blacks, FC Bayern Munchen, Williams F1, the Aussie Netball team, and Team New Zealand Sailing.

Lower end of 3 stars. Another from the sports biz list. This book is now over 20 years old, and sport has moved along alarmingly far since this research. That said, I grew up into my sporting fandom in the era of these teams (only a handful that I didn’t know about at the time, but have come to learn of) so insight into their history and different aspects of their organisation was interesting.
