The history of India is studded with a galaxy of colourful characters along with many with many enchanting legends of heroism, honor and romance. The three plays presented here in this volume belong to the ancient and medieval periods of Indian history.
A prolific children's author from India, Swapna Dutta has been publishing stories in newspapers and magazine for four decades, and has written many books for young readers, in a variety of genres. She was awarded a National Fellowship for literature by the Ministry of Human Resources in 1986, and a National Award for creative writing in Hindi by the Central Hindi Directorate in 1993. She has also received a number of Children's Book Trust Awards for short story, one-act-play and picture books (in English, Hindi and Bengali).
The three plays are short and based on historical events. While the plays are concise and do not tend to dramatize the facts to fiction too much, this does not leave too much room for Character build up, or tension build up.
In short, there are not really plays, rather dramatized versions of accurate historical facts.
