This play works quite well as a read-play. Provocative, short and sweet, there are some beautiful tuns of phrase used and Rowlands manages the volta in the middle fantastically well - due in no small part to the fact that his 'Man' is perfect as a representation of the cynical, aggrandising character. The dovetailing of the speeches at the end is a nice touch however I felt that the first Three scenes were let down by a below par dénouement of the final Act.

I enjoyed the first two scenes of this rather melodramatic play, but then the final two scenes go completely off the rails - hard to figure out exactly WHAT is happening, or why.
