Miss Eve Venables knows nothing about the man who’s persuaded her parents to deliver her to a country church in the middle of the night, not even his name. Four men in black hooded cloaks escort Eve up the aisle where she’s married by proxy to a man named Adam Harold Damian Latham, sixth Earl of Latham. The name Latham is familiar, but she can’t remember why...
I’m an American married to an adorable English Goblin. I’m an artist with a degree in fashion design, but I’ve always been a story teller. Stories are everywhere; in every scent, every glimpse out of the corner of the eye. The most magical moments of my life have been born of ‘what if?’.
I’ve been making up stories as long as I can remember. At ten I started writing (it was a romance – the girl’s parents are killed by a plane falling on their house so of course she moves to England. Don’t ask me where she got the money or the passport!). I knew I was going to grow up to be an author! All my artistic talents (portrait artist, sculptor, illustrator) converge on my favorite subject; people. I find both individuals and general humanity endlessly fascinating.
Maybe I'm reading these wrong, but I think Cari Hislop writes her books with her tongue firmly in her cheek. If you read this as a serious romance, it's not very good, but I read it as a farce, a light-hearted jab at historical romance conventions. I've read four of her books and every one of them is similar. They are fast reads, are laugh out loud funny, and will keep you smiling and sighing throughout. There were a few grammar and spelling errors, but not too many. In the spirit of the story, I would describe the characters as poor Adam and his heart (the creature in his chest, wailing for its mistress), and Eve (her own heart desperately leaping toward Adam). Honestly, don't pick up this book thinking it is a "normal" Regency romance. It isn't, it's something far rarer, a well-executed comedy.
Charming tale filled with lighthearted fun and a sweet romance. Anyone looking for serious or highly thought provoking regency romance should look somewhere else, but if you are like me and enjoy a sweet and hilarious romance you should really check this out. I highly enjoyed the comical way these two interacted with each other and even found much of Adam’s sometimes crazy ideas endearing. Eve is silly and in my opinion fun and very sweet. I liked the crazy antics she did in order to try and see Adam’s face. The story was comical and really sweet I enjoyed this authors writing and will definitely being trying out some of her other books.
Okay book. Seemed to be more of a contemporary in dialog than historical. It was a cute read and there was only sexual tension, no acutal scenes. This kisses were good. I like the way the H/h talked about their hearts as seperate people up to a point. I think they began to overdue the concept. Also, towards the end, there seemed to be the OTT of the real conflict between them, his deformity and her insecurities for being purchased as a bride. They both should have gotten over it a little sooner. Over all a cute and fast read.
Don't you love farce? If the answer is no just skip over this book. This is a somewhat aggressive beauty tangling with a somewhat over sensitive beast. It made me laugh out loud more than once. I'm a sucker for a good laugh. Between four and five stars.
