This book addresses the life-changing problems that pain patients, and those around them, can have on relationships, dealing with the medical community, the harsh realities of access to adequate care, understanding medications and how they are are safely used, the medical nature of pain, suffering, sleep, and so on. Hopefully patients will be more realistic and equiped to deal with the pain.
Pain is very personal and lonely. No one can feel or measure your pain, no matter how much they care, our loved ones are not always aware of the current status of our pain. So when I'm having a bad day, it helps to pick up this book and know that someone out there understands, I am not alone, and things will get better.
The information provided is invaluable and I wish every doctor and pain patient would read this book to make the communication and understanding between doctor and patient that much better for the next generation of pain sufferers.
This author really understands what it is like to live with chronic pain. It is validating when someone in the medical profession is truly concerned about pain and the psychological damage it creates. I would have given it more stars but I'm just not a non-fiction reader!
