While the book presents a great deal of knowledge on what it takes to successfully plan and execute a backcountry fly fishing trip in the Rocky Mountains, the material too often drags on in a manner that makes it applicable only to a rarefied group of readers (which likely don't need the material provided to begin with), making for many chapters that are either too long or lacking in focus. If updated the material would be worth skimming, but there are many newer works that better speak to backcountry fly fishing.
This book is chock-full of useful information and insight on how to fish and hike the backcountry. Some of the information is a little dated most the stuff on the tents and fly fishing gear. But the book does offer a lot of knowledge that is still very good, and most of all the book makes you want to get out and explore.
Great reviews of a few of the author's favorite fly fishing spots accompanied by his hiking practices. If like to get away from civilization this is one way to meet that goal!!
