I had never even heard of this work until I found a copy at a used book store. It's a collection of Mahfood's art school work and early independent comics, and it's quite rough at times. However, I enjoyed many of the short pieces, and some of the criticism reminded me of Mahfood's later Stupid Comics work (there's a lot here tearing down art school stereotypes). If anything, it reminded me of early Evan Dorkin --- the same blend of music, comics, pop culture, and outrage.

This is some OOOOOOOLD stuff. It's cool to see work from someone's "formative years" and all, but some of this seems like it would be embarrassing to have out there. It's really college-y, with a lot of that snarky art student attitude that's annoying even when you are a snarky art student. Not terrible or anything, but nothing really all that fun to read.
