About the author

OAKLAND ROSS is the author of the novels The Dark Virgin and The Empire of Yearning, the travel memoir A Fire on the Mountains, and Guerrilla Beach, a collection of stories that was shortlisted for the Trillium Book Award. His third novel, entitled Swimming with Horses, was published in February, 2019, by Toronto's Dundurn Press. A former features writer for the Toronto Star, Ross spent several years based in Jerusalem as that paper’s Middle East correspondent. Before that, he covered Latin America and then Africa for The Globe and Mail, living in Mexico City and, later, in Harare, Zimbabwe. Ross is the winner of two National Newspaper Awards, a National Magazine Award, and the Roland Michener Award for meritorious public service in journalism. He lives in Toronto.

Es la mejor novela de historia mexicana que he leido en mi vida.

Le doy mil gracias al autor por escribir esta joya, que ojalá viva cien años en la memoria de todo el mundo.

Hace más de siete años que lo leí por primera vez, y desde ese entonces no ha pasado epoca alguna de mi vida en la que no recuerde algún suceso, alguna frase, o alguna reflexión que leí en el libro. La edición que tenía había perdido sus primeras diez páginas por algún descuido, y aún así fue totalmente disfrutable.

Espero algún día encontrarlo en digital, pues quisiera leer las primeras páginas de un libro inmortal como lo es este.

Novela histórica sobre la conquista de Méjico, no me ha gustado el relato exagerado de la brutalidad española desde el punto de vista anglosajón, si hubieran sido ingleses me habría gustado saber que decia
