Lt. Wheeler is called to the office of a private eye. When he arrives there is a gunfight in progress. The PI is dead and Wheeler kills his assailant.

Wheeler begins his investigation by interviewing all of the people on a list on the PI’s desk.

He learns that seven or eight people are being blackmailed by a voice on the phone. I do not know what I can say at this point without getting banned in our current moral climate. All of the women Wheeler questions offer him sex. He takes advantage several times. He finds the voice on the phone.

The story is confusing. There are too many victims. The names are too similar.
