Kay Green was born on 31 December 1927 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, UK. On 1 October 1949, she married Gavin Frederick Green, they had a son and a daughter.
The story starts when the heroine (22) has just sold everything to pay the debts of her father's business when he died. The OM finds her a job looking after a recently paralysed woman, who needs help going back to England. At his tea plantation, she meets the hero (35) who is to drive them (with some relatives of his workers) to Colombo to catch the boat. The van driving them down causes a bridge to collapse, so they are left (3 elderly people, 3 children, the disabled woman and the hero and heroine) to make their way through the jungle. This journey takes 3 weeks (and not everyone makes it). The hero is distrustful and rude to the heroine as he believes that she caused problems with what he sees as the OM and the disabled woman. He gradually warms to her, but you can see it is against his will. By the end of the three weeks they are both in love and hiding it. Once safety is reached, he protects her, but the OM arrives and the hero leaves. 4 months later the heroine has saved enough money to get the boat home, she encounters the hero again, runs away, but this time he decides to find out the truth about the OM. The HEA happens on the boat home. It's a really interesting story - more of a tale, than a romance - but triggers for human death and animal suffering. I really liked the main characters, and the fact the hero was of middle height and ordinary looking, whilst the perceived OM was extraordinarily handsome and rich. Upping from 4 to 5 stars on a re-read as it really was different and well written.

Judi's first encounter with the grim and aggressive Blake Morrison was not exactly an auspicious one. True, she had been in the arms of the well-known philanderer Gerry Somers, but Gerry was her father's old friend, and it was only as a friend that he had been embracing her. However, Blake chose to believe otherwise, with the result that Judi resolved to have as few dealings with him as possible. Which was an unfortunate decision to make, considering that she was to be forced to spend three weeks with him trekking through the jungle forests of Ceylon! Soon Judi was to reconsider her attitude towards Blake. But what of him?
