Throughout history, women have struggled to change the workplace, change government, change society. So what’s next? It’s time for women to change the world! Whether on the job, in politics, or in their community, there has never been a better time for women to make a difference in the world. Author Susan Bulkeley Butler was the first female partner of a major consulting firm and is the founder of the Susan Bulkeley Butler Institute for the Development of Women Leaders. In Women Count, author Susan Bulkeley Butler shows readers how to change the world through a series of inspiring case studies that chronicle how she and other pioneering women in a range of fields have done so in years past. Never before has the world so greatly needed the unique abilities of women to lead the way. But as history has shown, to make change, women must step into their power and become “women who count.”
Interesting idea that more women are needed in high profile jobs, such as CEO's, Politics, Lawyers and Judges, etc. to make our country better. Susan Butler has a good argument and puts that argument into written words. There is no doubt that education of girls from grade school through college needs to be encouraged, supported, and recognized. Women are the stronger when put to the fire, they rise to the challenges faced by being full time workers, Mothers, community service givers and strong faith believers. While it is true that not all women desire to be mothers, those that do should be encouraged and supported to do so. Without having mothers there is no new generation to share our knowledge, experiences and beliefs with.
Imagine what a difference the world would be in IF being a stay-at-home Mother(or Father) were a "PAID" profession. If the government put their money behind one parent staying in the homes to help their kids with homework, trials, athletics, anything that the families wanted to do. Kids wouldn't come home to empty houses, they would be checked on to make sure they were attending school, they would attend worship services, they would know that a loving parent was always there and available to help them achieve there dreams.
Women are making a difference everyday, in many different aspects of the globe. First and foremost Women especially need to be the caregivers to the next generation. The governments should applaud, support, and pay for the next generation to be the best there is.
I like the thoughts expressed in this book, in the fact that women do need to COUNT, be encouraged in the work force, equally paid, and have more opportunities for success. BUT having a adult at home when children are there is more important than being a CEO or President if you decide to have children. I applaud those families that make the sacrifice to keep a parent at home, whether it be a mother, father, or partner. It takes commitment, dedication, and hard work to raise kids. These are to many kids left on their own and raising themselves in this world.
