Pictures of Village Life: On a New Guinean Island

Rate this book
This is the story of island Melanesians and of the Rhenish missionaries who brought the first continuing Christian presence to volcanic Karkar Island, northeast of Madang. This presence began on July 2, 1890 and was abruptly ended on August 3, 1895, as a result of a destructive eruption on Bagiai volcano. Pioneer missionary Georg Kunze, born June 13, 1861 in Dresden, then the capital of the Kingdom of Saxony in Germany, tells the thrilling and often tragic story of this venture in faith. Translated from the 1925 German edition
