I just did not enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. Carlie was annoying throughout and I didn't care much for the way the story was pieced together. It was an interesting read, but I didn't develop any attachment to any of the characters or even find myself caring if they lived or died, which made it hard for me to want to move on to the next book in the series.
It was a amazing book, Charlie opened her eyes that Devon was abusing her for so long. I'm happy she got out of it before she died. Now she's with Kirk and i'm quite happy, gonna be reading the second book sooner or later
This book is written from a very fresh perspective. I read a lot of the reviews prior to reading t h e book. One that stood out was that Carlie was so weak that they could not finish the book. But this is what kept me reading. I couldn't quite figure out why Carlie was weak. What did she see in Devon? She wasn't looking fir a father because she had one. She was missing a mother but had a mother figure in her grandmother. She didn't lack for anything. She was so very opposite the usual looking for a father figure in the wrong man. The only thing I could come up with is that Ricky kept her do sheltered that it was her way of acting out by being with Devon. This was a very good read. Glad Devon and Zarria got theirs in the end.
This book was based on Carlie's life with Devin. Devin is a drug dealing gang banger that abuses Carlie in many ways. I found myself wanting to make Carlie snap out of it because she made too many bad decisions. I couldn't get a good feel for Rickey, Courtney or Kirk as I never clearly knew where they were coming from in the story. Wanted more character development with definite positive ending. I'm glad that the author wrote a note explaining domestic violence while offering resources for readers to get help.
Like many Carlie is stuck on stupid when it comes to her abusive boyfriend Devon. With family support and some last words of encouragement left by her grandmother, Carlie realize that her life is better off without Devon. Catching her best friend wacking him doesn't help matters either. Good read, and easy to relate to.
I really tried to read this book, but I just cannot do it. The main character Carlie is so dense that I find myself too frustrated to even read the book. The descriptions of the characters a kind of boring, too. This is a serious issue being discussed in the novel, but the point just does not come across.
