Maulana Husain Ahmad Madni (1879-1957) was an Islamic scholar of international repute and a stalwart of India's freedom struggle. His contribution to India's emergence as a secular democratic nation-state ranks with that of Mahatma Gandhi, Maulana Azad and Jawaharlal Nehru. As an anti-imperialist crusader he spent long years in British jails between 1914 and 1947. His most outstanding contribution is his theoretical tract Islam aur Muttahida Qaumiyat (United Nationlism and Islam). He carried on uncompromising campaign against Two-Nation Theory and opposed Muslim League's attempt at partitioning India.
