The first of a two volume study, which will analyse the complex relationship between Britain and France in the twentieth century: a relationship which has been crucial to European politics and to both World Wars. This volume (fully self-contained) runs from the period of intense imperial rivalry at the turn of the century to the Fall of France. Philip Bell discusses diplomatic, economic and military policy, combining absorbing narrative with revealing commentary about the two countries.
Very well explained and summarised information regarding France and Britain from WW1, covering the 20s, 30s, and WW2 as well, with great sentences and a good outlook.
If you have any interest in the subject, this is an extremely lucid history of the relationship between these countries. I discovered many fascinating facts and episodes in the history. These help me understand assumptions and opinions I have taken for granted, and opened my eyes to the power of differing points of view on the same action, whether individuals or states.
