Electromechanical Principles of Wind Turbines: For Wind Energy Technicians

Rate this book
Wind Turbines are relatively simple machines. The wind blows, turning the blades attached to the hub. This rotational energy is transferred from the hub to the shaft and then into a gearbox. The gearbox merely takes the slow rotational energy and torque of the turbine and converts it to a high-speed rotation that is fed into the generator. From there, the generator produces the necessary electricity, which is transmitted to the substation for consumption. This is really an oversimplification of the process, as there are thousands of components---both stationary and moving---that are required for all of this to happen continuously.
