"Worry puts wrinkles in the brow, silver in the hair, and poison in the bloodstream. It thwarts our dreams of happiness and success." (Lester Sumrall, Victory and Dominion Over Fear)
As the title of the book suggests, this book is a manual on obtaining victory and dominion over fear. The Bible says " fear hath torment " (See 1 John 4:18), and God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, and a spirit of love and you have a sound mind as a believer (2 Timothy 1:7). God gives great peace for those who love God's Word, and nothing shall make them stumble (See Psalm 119:165). I am feeling the peace of God, even as I write this. God is a God of peace, He is not the God of fear. Jesus said concerning fear, "Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell" (Matthew 10:28). The fear that Jesus was teaching on was not a dread of God, but an awe of God. A respect of God. Like when someone enters the room who you admire, but even greater because this is the God of the universe we are talking about.
This book first explains where fear comes from. He explains there are primary producers of fear in this century. He lists and expounds upon some of them: satan, evil spirits, dominating humans, unwise parents, advertisers, and religion. He says satan is "public enemy number one in producing fear" and that "fear is his strongest instrument or weapon for breaking the personality of man and destroying his life." He goes on to explain that satan uses fear to separate man from his Maker, God. That man cannot have faith, when he is living in fear.
He lists 7 steps to take when fear strikes and then expounds upon them:
"1. Recognize it.
2. Analyze it.
3. Externalize it.
4. Resist it with action.
5. Fight it with the Bible.
6. Fight it with prayer.
7. Consult a minister."
There were many fears that he shares unfortunately exists in our world, everything from: agoraphobia (fear of open spaces, of going where people are), algophobia (fear of pain), androphobia (fear of men)....to zoophobia (fear of animals in general)...he lists close to 50 different types of fear phobias that plague humanity.
My favourite parts of this book where when he explains how Jesus responded and reacted to fear. Jesus even prophesied that in these last days, fear would begin to increase more and more. Jesus said, "...men fainting for fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world..." (Luke 21:25-27). Some of the ways he says Jesus responded and reacted to fear are:
▲ Christ was afraid of neither men nor devils;
▲ Christ's mind never knew panic or fear;
▲ Christ was never afraid in any circumstance of danger...
And we have the mind of Christ! (See 1 Corinthians 2:16) Therefore, we should fear not, as He did!
Fear not! says the Lord! The statements "fear not" and "be not afraid", appear at least 100 times in the Bible. Great peace have they who love Your law and nothing shall offend them. Nothing shall make the people of God fear. Amen.
Take up the spirit of a winner, chop off the head of the enemy of fear, and be victorious...this book will show you the way.
