GJ IndieBrag: We are proud to announce that BOOMERANG GOLD by Dion Mayne & Paul Richardson is a B.R.A.G.Medallion Honoree. This tells readers that this book is well worth their time and money!5 Stars (Goodreads)Pamela Gargett: Boomerang Gold transports the reader on a voyage across the treacherous oceans of the sixteenth century. It is fast-paced and full of incidents that feel stunningly different to modern day society and its expectations. The writers capture the true characters of the captains and crew of these incredibly adventurous ships and the lure of gold. Greed overcomes any of the loyalty that may have been expected of these men. However, there are characters such as Dr Willis, the caring and respectful, ship's doctor, Tilley, the mistreated prostitute and various islanders who act as the calmer areas in this vast, surging, heaving ocean of a tale. Worth a read for the action, the history and the utterly believable characters.5 Stars (Goodreads)Captain Calder Velden, a ruthless seafaring servant of the Secret Dutch Allegiance, had been summoned to serve his state in territories unknown.1586AD his beloved homelands were under Spanish Rule, there seemed to be no answers on how the resistance could end the tyranny. Backed by incredible wealth, King Phillip II of Spain had established a World Power hell bent on conquering all known territories. The Dutch Allegiance knew the Spanish had discovered an untapped source of wealth in the territories of Nueva Guinea. It was time to send their cut-snake captain to disrupt and cripple the southern supply of gold to the Spanish Treasury.Calder was in command of the new stealth ship, ‘The Kharon’, specifically made for the mission. Christened after the mythical ferry boat of the underworld, she was to pursue, raid and pillage enemy merchant ships along the trade route south of Bantam and leave no survivors! However the unpredictable cloak and dagger mission itself could not have foreseen the Captain and Crew being entangled in mass murder, hoards of treasure, discovery of new lands and revenge that would span the best part of twenty years.Everyone knows you must be responsible for your actions; but when you mix gold fever, pride, revenge and the open seas then perhaps you may be forgiven for forgetting your responsibilities. In the case of The Kharon and her crew’s greed, wealth may just play second fiddle to survival.A tale entwined around historical events!More reviews from Thompson: Just finished this cracking tale. Well researched and very original as I havent ever heard much in regards to the Dutch coming across the territory that is now known as Australia.
Boomerang Gold is a fast paced historical adventure thriller based on the lines of a treasure hunt. And what a treasure hunt it is. There is action, adventure, piracy, history and a treasure hunt is involved in this story spanning several years. This story also shows how power and greed turn a human into the worst monster. The story is continuously on the move and never a dull moment and sometimes the lines between good and bad are blurred This book makes one think does the end justify the means and does nationalism and patriotism mean brutality and forgoing human values in dealing with enemy. A great read. The only thing I didn't like in this story is the treatment of the women and just when i started liking one women , she was killed. I received this book from the authors via @readershouse
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Trigger Warning: This book contains multiple scenes involving rape and abuse.
Sailors to pirates, treason, love and a hunt for lost treasure, this historical fiction always has something going on. Mainly, the story follows two brothers on their journey fueled by greed, and how their abuse of power and desire for more leaves only mass destruction in their wake.
Action packed and wonderfully paced, Dion Mayne and Paul Richardson keep you turning the pages through their unique style and prose. With a plot that continuously moves forward, it is most certainly not a story you want to put down for long. A lot happens in a short span of time despite the fact that the story lasts over several years. Even through all the carnage, violence and death through this story, there is still room for budding stories of love.
While the story is well-written, the rape and sexual abuse felt a bit excessive for me. I understand that this plays largely into the characters at hand, it’s just personal preference. Just as well, despite the multiple, varying characters, I did not really find myself connecting or even really liking or rooting for any of them until the book was nearing its end.
This book is definitely worth a shot if you enjoy historical fiction adventures full of pirates and fast-paced action. It was a good read, and I am likely to read more from these authors in the future.
Bought this book and from the moment I opened it up to read, I couldn't put it down. Reading it you could really picture where you were, who the characters were and a good description of what they looked like. The authors certainly take you on a rollercoaster ride with who you like within the story and who you start to dislike mid-way through, which then leads you wanting to see what happens in the end. Loved the native side of the story, how they were such a strong community and had no interest in the gold, just wanting to preserve their way of life. The revenge that takes place left me satisfied with how caught up I was within the tale and really liked the climax. Really wished for more gruesome, longer lasting deaths for the bad characters but was still happy with their demise.
Very happy with the decision to purchase this book. Very brutal at times, a lot of action but with 16th Century timeframe, can see a lot of this happening. Are there more books by these authors or works in progress?
Loved this 16th Century tale! Couldn't put Boomerang Gold down and I rarely read books.
The characters got me intrigued, some personalities changed during the tale and I went from liking them to despising them. It was very well written and I followed the plot easily. Well researched and very original as I havent ever heard much in regards to the Dutch coming across the territory that is now known as Australia. Enjoyed that the indigenious also played a big part in this tale. Was quite brutal some of the activities within the story but stayed true, from what I believe, happened during those days. That is to the ladies involved and the natives of Finjarra Highly recommend the read for those that enjoy Historical Fiction.
Thank you again to the authors, will get back into reading now. Hope their is more to follow from these authors

Enthralling tale! Also had my wife read it and she loved it. Quite a few murderous and brutal scenes in it towards ladies and natives but unfortunately that happened back then so the authors did well to keep with the times. Well researched and we found it easy to follow the plot. A great build up to the climax and quite glad to read the demise of certain characters. I'm sure all who read it would feel the same. Certainly an original tale and great to see how it entwined around historical events. Highly Recommend, would enjoy picking it up again for 'first time' or even seeing a movie brought out.
Was gifted this book for Christmas 2020. Not usually a big reader but we were on holidays and I started reading it on Boxing day and found it difficult to put down! Really enjoyed it. A lot of action in it and parts are quite extreme but it made me want to read more to see how certain characters faired with their treatment towards others. I enjoyed the lure of the gold and the twists it caused amongst the sailors and their bosses. A soft spot for the indigenious islanders and Tilley within the tale. Really hope the authors bring out more to read. I found this quite easy to follow and if you understand how times were back then, i feel ladies and gents would enjoy this read
Was apprehensive to read this book as I was told about the violence in it but so glad I chose to read it. Great plot and characters and with the research that must have been done, it really has stuck true to how it would have been back then. I really liked how engaging the characters were and wanted to see how the story evolved and climaxed. For those that are intrigued in Historical Fiction, highly recommend Boomerang Gold and be warned it is gruesome but at the same time it brings you in more, wondering what is around the corner for all involved. Easy to read and visualize locations, well done to the authors. Finished within 2days, was a good recommendation!
Thoroughly enjoyed this tale! Intrigued with the characters from the start and found it interesting how the writers had you liking a particular character in the beginning and despising the same person by the end. A brutal tale but kept true with the 16th Century times! Well researched and recommend to anyone enjoying Historical Fiction. Couldn't put it down, plot, characters and flow of story was brilliant.
The more I read this book, the more I liked it. I read it in 2 days, and honestly couldn't put it down on day 2 until I finished it. Quite brutal at times. Saddens me to think that this probably really was how people acted, and treated those that they thought were inferior to them. Glad to see the "bad guys" get what they deserved. Hope to see more books from Dion and Paul.
Read as an eBook and enjoyed this historical tale. The characters captivated me and the plot had me reading from start to finish without wishing to put the book down. I followed the storyline easily, you can tell that the authors have done some great research on this period in history. Brutal at times as the authors didn't sugar coat it. Looking forward to their next tale!
This book will most likely end up as a Netflix series and/or a movie because it's just that good. This is the only Historical and authentic book that I recommend everyone to read as it is enthralling, fun, and true. I don't do spoilers so if you want to peek than go peek. Great job author Dion Mayne Paul Richardson.
