Eufimia: An Italian Renaissance Tragedy (Medieval and Renaissance Studies (Lewiston, N.Y.), V. 21.)

Rate this book
Like Giraldi's (1504-73) other plays, Eufimia was written to be performed for the Esta court in Ferrara. This Italian edition (without translation) is the fifth Horne has prepared for Edwin Mellen. His introductory essays consider the play in terms of the dispute with Pigna, the romance of chivalry, and whether the heroine is a version of a free spirit or a patient Grisel. He also includes notes on the text and the transcription, a list of emendations, a glossary without guides to pronunciation, a bibliography, and an index.
