Gender Trouble Down Under: Australian Masculinities

Rate this book
from the back cover...

One of the bits of queer theory that seems to have stuck is the idea of masculinity as a kind of drag. The more you do it, the more insecure you look. David Coad shows that gender and sexuality have always been troubled concepts for Australians. This well-researched book is carefully argued throughout. It is also vivid, full of lively instances and entirely readable - Alan Sinfield, Professor of English, University of Sussex

As an introduction to the history of Australian masculinity and its inherent queerness, and as a sampler in cultural studies, this book is ideal- Australian Book Review

Such an incredible book that has been a stalwart of more deeply understanding the troubled relationship that Australia has with gender.

Really recommended.
