My teacher picked this book to let me read it at home. This is a solar system book. First it says there are nine planets going around the sun, that is called the solar system. Then the book talks about planets around the sun one by one. The vey closest one from the sun is Mercury, you can’t live on Mercury because it is too hot. The second planet from the sun is called Venus. The third one from the sun is Earth. Earth is neither too hot nor too cold, and I know that, because we live on it. It has a lot of water and air, we do need them. Mars is the fourth one from the sun. Mars is cold, but you can live there if you wear spacesuits. The next ones are Jupiter, Saturn, Unarus, Neptune and Pluto. We can not live on them because those are too cold. I like this book, I learned from it. The book has some pictures of planets, those are great.

Personal Reflection - This is fun book to look at! The pictures are amazing and they draw you into wanting to learn about the world around us. I would love to use this in my future classroom for the pictures alone. I remember being completely captivated by outer space science as a young child and this book would surely capture that interest in children today.
Purpose - 2nd grade read to self or read aloud.
This book would be great in a science lesson on planets and the sun - how they work in conduction with one another. Perhaps a lesson on space exploration and what it looks like in space. This book would more than likely go along with a lesson that fulfills a common core state standard on Earth/Sun/Planet information. Both boys and girls alike will enjoy this book and more than likely want to take it home and share it with their siblings and parents as well as their friends.

A look at our solar system with information about all the planets even rejected Pluto. Great pictures and easy to read sentences.
