Here is the first volume in the Ghost Towns of Michigan series, featuring 33 of Michigan's most fascinating ghost towns, along with numerous historic photographs. These are stories of land speculators, wildcat bankers, boom-and-bust lumber barons, pioneers who refused to give up, and small towns with big ideas that didn't quite pan out.
I just love the books in this set of three volumes. My husband found all three in near-mint condition for me as a gift. It's too bad that these are out of print. They are interesting and entertaining, the author being more of a storyteller than a historian. This volume is a bit disorganized, but I loved the stories told of each town.
33 short stories about small towns, a few that no longer exist save as a few overgrown foundations...train wrecks...one story about this old buck who was seen walking one day, later found, deceased on top of a grave marker. seems like most of the stories have to-do w/the northern lower peninsula. lots of history here, too.
