I am recommending this book to a good friend who naturally follows many of these fundamentals. He is a tradesperson but excels at what he does despite severe physical limitations. This book is so important today as we live in a culture which expects instant gratification. This is a case study for what can be achieved following four pillars. The author has brought the same high level of consciousness to delivering an actionable process as he has done with his other successes. It is obvious he wants the reader to succeed. For myself, I have recently had my confidence shaken but I feel inspired by this proven path. I am getting ready to get back in the saddle with this book as my coach companion.

Not What I Expected… SO MUCH BETTER,

I’m always looking for self-improvement books, not only for myself but also for my teen grandchildren. This is NOT your typical jock’s “how to succeed” book! The 4 pillars of performance can work for anyone, whether he/she be an athlete or a retired coach potato like me! My favorite line? “Showing up authentically” is so important in EVERY endeavor. Great and practical book!

Shift Your Routine

An honest and realistic approach to self-improvement that encourages you to make a genuine assessment of where you are now. With routines like three daily check-ins and techniques for utilising the “white space” between events, this is a highly practical approach from an elite hockey player turned business guru.

I enjoyed the discussions of his struggles as an athlete and how they affected his business life, but there really wasn't much in terms of actionable insights.

I picked up this book while searching for motivation to get back in the gym to lose the 30+ pounds I've gained. Erik Westrum's book focuses in on developing a 10 minute daily plan so that my goal stays at the top of my mind. He writes about the 4 pillars of performance: psychological, physical, spiritual and emotional, and how to shift each for peak performance. I'm making a daily plan & exercising. Works so far!
